Friday Update May 20
Thank you to everyone who came
to our Learning Celebration this morning!
I am so proud of how our students have grown this year! A special thank
you to our wonderful room moms Mina and Neetu! And thank you to all of you and
your beautiful kiddos for the wonderful thank you book (I LOVE the pages!) and
the gift vouchers from Takashimaya. That
is my favorite place to shop. I will send
a separate e-mail with the link for the slideshow that was played during our celebration
today. It is unlisted so if you have the
link you can get to it, but can’t search for it. Let me know if you have any problems viewing
it.
This week we also…
*Celebrated Maxton’s
birthday—HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAXTON!
*Went to the Elementary Theatre
for a visit with author Chris Barton—he read us two of his books Mighty Truck
and Shark VS Train, and the kiddos LOVED them!
Very funny!
*Mr. Pearson visited our class
for his last counseling lesson on Responsibility.
*WE VISITED KINDERGARTEN! (Now we have been back and forth with little
visits to various places, but this was a big one! We had a chance to visit one
of the kindergarten classrooms, explore and ask questions, play on one of the
playgrounds, see perceptual motor (their version of Move and Groove), read a
story with Ms. Cuthbert in the library, be introduced to Ms. Farris our
kindergarten counselor, see the swimming pools, have a snack and drink the
Elementary School cafeteria, walk through the Elementary Office….I’m sure I am
missing something, but wow! It was fun
and I think helped our cuties feels pretty confident about their move up! J
*We made banana bread for our celebration!
*Just a reminder that this Monday, May 23rd
is Vesak Day so there is NO SCHOOL for students. We will see them
back here on Tuesday.
Upcoming Dates and Things
to Remember:
*Return library books if you have any sitting around your house.
*Thursday, May 26th: MAGIC SHOW (Students only) We
head to the kindergarten group room for a fun show at 9, and then have
popsicles on the playground there after.
*Friday, May 27th: WET DAY/PAJAMA DAY!!!!!!!!!!
*We will put out the pool, play with shaving cream and
get messy!
*Children should come to school with a
bathing suit under their clothes.
*Free Dress is fine to arrive in and
Flip-flops or Crocs would be the best footwear.
*Please send a LABELED plastic bag with a LABELED towel and PAJAMAS!!!! We
will get cozy and do some reading together after our fun outside.
*Apply sunscreen before coming to
school and have your child bring a hat.
*Friday, June 3rd: Last Day of School!—11:30am dismissal

Mango and Jelly's Play Space--Final Part
The students were very
concerned and helped Jelly through her haircut, but she was fine! We talked and
realized we need to make a few changes: 1) Make sure the tape was really down
2) Make ramps so they could go up to the next levels 3) Give them some friends because they were a
little shy 4) Put in some signs so they
(Mango and Jelly) as well as other people would know what was going on.
The students brainstormed signs for food bowls,
tunnels, a big sign for the whole play space.
The students also decided to make friends out of clay for the guinea
pigs to feel more comfortable in their new space because “everyone needs a
friend!” Some students decided to give the play space some paint. Pictures and
notes were drawn for the pigs and new parts for the play space created.
The
students were happy with their changes, and with what Mango and Jelly did
during their next exploration! They are now in the process of designing a
relaunch to our project….they are making an imaginary world for Mango and Jelly
to explore using sticks, clay, and pebbles!
The play space continues to be revisited (both by Mango and Jelly as
well as by students who want to add to it!)
