Friday Update January 17th

January 17, 2014

Dear Parents,
Happy New Year again!  I heard about so many fun holidays!!!  It is great to be back with the cuties, and of course with our two new cuties Justin and Ishaan!  They are already settled and happy in our class!  Report cards come home today, so look for them in your child’s zippy pouch.
** If you could send in a photo from your holiday, that would be WONDERFUL! We need inspiration for our journals. J
Here are some things that happened this week. We…
*learned the name, sound, and formation for the letter Dd.
*brainstormed/ listed words that begin with Dd and wrote them in our alphabet journals.
*added dots to our feely letter Dd.  Please remember to add this to your feely letter ring and review all of the letters. (It is coming home in the zippy today.)
*did a dinosaur dig in the sensory shredded paper table.
*dot painted pictures
*started learning nursery rhymes—Hey Diddle Diddle was for today.
*estimated and counted dog bones.
*made dog headbands and collars, put on face paint, and made “doggy dinner” for our Dog day today.
*read some wonderful dog books—our favorites included Dog’s Colorful Day, Dog in Charge and Whistle for Willy.
*we started learning about Chinese New Year and made red/gold lanterns for good luck (2 each! J) and began painting cherry blossoms.

And…….BIG NEWS!  Our Gingerbread Man wrote us two postcards!!!!!!!!!  (YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE EXCITEMENT!!) Apparently he is having fun on his travels and has been through Australia to see the koalas and kangaroos and through Switzerland to ski! WOW!  I wonder if he will go anywhere else—the cuties are on edge (hint hint---more postcards please—it is so wonderful!!!!!  Thanks for those two!)
