It was great to have the cuties
back this week after a much needed break! We continued to learn about
Divali—thank you so much to Akshita’s mom Aparna for coming in to share Divali
with us!
This week we also…
*learned the sounds (long
and short), hand motion and letter formation for the letter Ee.
*added eggshells to our
feely letter Ee.
*brainstormed and added Ee
words to our alphabet journals.
*did an egg experiment by placing an egg
in vinegar. We are waiting to see what will happen to the egg as the
vinegar breaks down the calcium in the shell. This is a fun/easy
experiment to replicate at home.
*read Green Eggs and Ham,
and then cooked scrambled eggs—have your child tell you about them! The cuties
did a great job cracking their own eggs for this cooking project AND…..everyone
tried them!!!!!!! WOW!
*learned the song Dingle
Dangle Scarecrow and we added it to our Song book.
*read books about patterns
on farms and painted patterns on paper. These papers were cut into rectangles
and turned into scarecrows.
*Used our imaginations and
great oral language skills in the “Farmers’ Market” dramatic play.
*Counted pennies and
nickels as we practiced buying food at the farmers’ market.
*painted and decorated
pictures of homes.
* Celebrated the holiday of
Deepavali by painting diyas, eating Deepavali treats, and making rangoli rice
designs and painting peacock feathers.
NEXT
WEEK
Next week we will introduce
the letters Cc and Kk. These letters are introduced together because they
make the same sound. We will continue with harvest activities and learn
about and explore vegetables.

PRE-K SERVICE PROJECT: HYGIENE KITS FOR CAMBODIA (A note went home
in your child’s zippy pouch today)
This week, pre-k students watched a video, about
children in Cambodia, who are in need of basic hygiene necessities like
toothbrushes and soap. Over Thanksgiving Break, 25 teachers from SAS will
be going to Cambodia with a goal of delivering 1,500 hygiene kits to families
in Siem Reap. Your kind, caring little ones are eager to help these teachers!
Please assist your child with this opportunity by donating the following items
by Wednesday, 13 November.
1 bar of
soap
1 small washcloth 1
comb
1 large tube of toothpaste
4 toothbrushes
The students will assemble the kits in class and add
a note (already printed in Khmer) that has directions on how to use each item
or the importance of washing their hands and brushing their teeth.
Thank you in advance for your support and helping
your children become compassionate, concerned world citizens.
Thank
you!!! Have a wonderful weekend!!!! Lynsey and Aidah
