Friday Update February 6

February 6, 2015

Dear Parents,
What a week!!!!!!!  LEMONADE! LEMONADE! LEMONADE!!!!  Thank you so much for your contributions of lemons and money towards the SPCA.  Our class raised 130 dollars to put toward food, blankets and toys for the animals! I am so proud of our cuties—they did an amazing job coming up with ideas for how to run the lemonade stand, take money, advertise, entice people to come and buy, and pour and give out lemonade!!!!!
Here are some other things that happened this week. We…
*learned the name, sound, and formation for the letter Ll.
*brainstormed/ listed/cut out words that begin with Ll and wrote them in our alphabet journals.
*added LACE to our feely letter Ll.  Please remember to add this to your feely letter ring and review all of the letters.
*learned the song Mary Had A Little Lamb, our LEMON-LEMONADE song, and This Little Piggy.
*SQUEEZED A LOT OF LEMONS!!!!!!!!
*mixed sugar and water and ice and made our lemonade!
*came up with ideas, a plan and the materials that we would need for a lemonade sale.  The cuties were very good at coming up with things like ice to keep the lemonade cool and spoons to mix it!
*made signs to advertise our lemonade sale
*practiced in our dramatic play area how to sell lemonade. There was a lot of “Come buy some lemonade! 50 cents a glass! It is for the SPCA” and “Would you like some lemonade? 50 cents please!” heard in our classroom!  And they put their practice to good use at the sale!
*made headbands to help us advertise our lemonade.
*played and built with magna tiles (always a favorite), playdoh,  sensory beads and beads to string.
*looked at the number of LETTERS in our names and practiced writing our numbers, using a 10 frame and tallying.
*compared the number of letters in our names to our friends
*continued reading a number of related stories to The Three Little Pigs (including The Fourth Little Pig, Ziggy and the Three Pigs, and The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.)
*sequenced The Three Little Pigs
*watched the teachers ACT OUT The Three Little Pigs in the ABC hall (I was the Big Bad Wolf—the cuties could not keep from laughing and screaming at me the entire time!  I personally think we all deserved Oscars, but they might not agree J J)
*had a visit from Ms. Sarah, our counselor to talk about RESPONSIBILITY (a big word for little ones, but talking about helping out at home, putting dishes away, helping to clean up, being responsible for feeding themselves etc.)

*learned the song Five Green and Speckled Frogs and made a book based on the song to practice taking one away.
*played with pretend frogs in the sensory table along with our moon sand.
*caught numbered frogs in the water table and ordered them 1 – 20
*painted with feathers.
*used magnetic fishing poles to catch the letters that the words on our mat started with.
*made our own books! There was paper, crayons/markers and staplers set out and this was completely optional.  Our cuties RAN to this table to make a book! Look for them in their bags (many of them have my writing inside as each cutie told me their story) and the kiddos shared some of them with Ms. Jo during library as well.
*Read many different versions of The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf.  We will continue with this fairy tale next week. Ask your cutie what a book should have to be a fairy tale J  (Once upon a time, a good guy/bad guy and happily ever after (or a happy ending of some sort.))
*Painted what we thought we would look like when we are 100 years old.
*Went on a number hunt and started making 100 day headbands.
*Measured our feet with cubes after reading “How Big is a Foot?” about a king making a bed for a queen.
