INTRODUCING...

MANGO and JELLY!!!!

The cutest guinea pigs in the school are in our class!!!!!  And our own cuties are in LOVE. :-)

Feel free to send in veggies for snacks for our girls if your child wants to, and you are welcome to take these furbabies home for a long weekend or week vacations (or any weekend for that matter!)  Just let me know!

It was another amazing week of learning in the yellow starfish Pre K class!!!!!!

This week we…

*learned the sounds (long and short), letter formation, and hand motion for the letter Ii.

*added ink drops to our “feely letter” Ii

*brainstormed and wrote Ii words in our alphabet journals

*played with ice (in the shape of cubes, spheres and cylinders) in the sensory table.

*practiced writing and decorated our initials.  Can your child tell you his/her initials? How about the initials of a friend in class?

*began sharing our beautiful family banners. (We will continue this next week.)

*learned the ways children in our class say hello in different languages.

*read the book A My Name is Alice and are making a class book based on the story.

*played with spheres, cones, cubes, pyramids, cylinders, and rectangular prisms in the sensory table.

*Learned about Russia from Daniel’s mom, Great Britain from Arjun’s mom, and Pakistan from Amber’s Dad!  Thank you parents!!!  We learned so much!

*Had a visit from storyteller songwriter Courtney Campbell—she sang some amazingly fun songs with us, and we have three of her cds to sing and dance to in class!

*Went to the Middle School Library to visit with MR. T the tiger and Mr. Starker (the middle school librarian) to read A Tiger for Tea, bang the big drum and visit the tiger room as reinforcement of learning the letter T last week.

*Used one dollar Singapore coins to buy ICE CREAM from our friendly neighborhood ice-cream man!  We used our manners so kindly when asking for our ice-cream!

*Met our new classmate Ronan—he will be joining us on Monday!

*Named our new guinea pig friends!!!  We would like to introduce….. (drumroll….)  MANGO and JELLY!!!!!!!! 

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

I look forward to meeting with all of you, to discuss your child’s progress, during Parent Teacher Conferences on the 11^th and 14^th.  At this time we will discuss your child’s strengths as well as goals for the year.  Please take a few minutes to reflect on 2 or 3 strengths and goals for your child.

UN DAY

We have been learning about United Nations Day.  For Pre Kindergarten that means focusing many of our projects and activities around appreciating where we all live, the school that we are at (the American School,) and the countries that we are from (whether we have a passport from that country, were born there, lived there, or that is our Nationality.)

Celebrating UN Day at school was beautiful.  We went to a Primary Assembly in the big high school gym, where we saw the flags of all of the countries parade in, we heard about what the United Nations is, we watched some AMAZING clips of places, animals and people from all over the world, listened to Kinder, first and second grade sing songs, and then joined in with "This School is our School..." as Dr. Landau, Mr. Hoss and Mr. Schunk sang.  Our cuties looked amazing in their national dress, and this week and next week, we are still enjoying presentations from all of you parents as we learn about your countries!!!  If only the problems of the world were seen through these amazing children's eyes as they cheered for each flag, sang along with the beautiful songs and ooohed and awed and the amazing animals and places from around the world.  Hug your children close, because they are AMAZING!!!

T is for TEETH!!

As part of our week in learning Tt and the sound this letter makes, we also learned about how to keep our teeth healthy!!!  Your child should have brought home their "Tommy Toothbrush."  Feel free to hang it by the sink to remind them to brush!  In class we talked about "anytime" foods and "sometimes" foods, practiced brushing and flossing our teeth, and brushed "MR. MOUTH'S" teeth with a really BIG toothbrush!  We then used toothpaste and white paint to BRUSH teeth that we cut out. :-)

Little Tommy

Little Tommy had a toothbrush

Left it hanging on the wall.

And it hung there and it hung there

For he used it not at all.

Till one day at the table

He began to scream and cry

“Mother dear, I have a toothache!

Mother dear, I think I’ll die!”

So she took him to the dentist

But the dentist shook his head

“It’s too late for little Tommy

Should have brushed his teeth instead.”

Week 7 Pictures

Friday Update Sept 23 to 27

The past two weeks have been jam-packed with fun!  The cuties did really well with our crazy schedules and had an amazing USA Day and UN DAY!  I am sure they went home exhausted but happy today! J This week and last we… 

*learned the sound, letter formation, and motion for the letter Tt.

*added triangles to our feely letter Tt.

*cut out pictures of Tt.

*Made T patterns with pattern blocks

*read fiction and nonfiction books about teeth and practiced brushing teeth with Mr. Mouth (a big model of a mouth.)

*”painted” and brushed teeth pictures/cut outs (with a mixture of white paint and toothpaste) using a toothbrush. We are also making a book about what’s good and bad for your teeth.

*learned the song Little Tommy’s Toothbrush and added to our Poems and Songs Folder. We also made a paper toothbrush to go with the song.  You can hang your child’s toothbrush and song on their bathroom mirror to remind him/her to brush his teeth. Have your cutie sing the song with you (although I warn you that it may be stuck in your head for days!!!!)

*celebrated USA Day by having s’mores around the campfire, dancing and pretending to go camping, painted pictures of the American flag, and going on a hunt around the school to find the symbol of the USA (the bald eagle.)

*read books about Singapore, wrote about it in our journals, and made our own flag.

*went to the HS gym for a Primary School UN Day celebration—it was beautiful!

*Had our second guidance lesson with Mr. Pearson—we talked about feelings.

*Played in the sensory table with “moon sand.”  It is a substance somewhere between sand and playdoh—the cuties LOVED IT!!!

NEXT WEEK

Next week we will learn about the letter Ii.  The children will be doing an activity about their initials.  Please help your child learn his/her first and last initial.  We will continue learning about our home countries, and continue to talk about families as we look at all of our family banners.
