Week 11 Update Oct 30 to Nov 3

A HUGE thank you to all of the parents who contributed to our Halloween party on Tuesday. Whether you sent in food, or helped out with the activities (or both!) it was VERY much appreciated! And an extra thank you to our fabulous room parents, Hana and Noemi for organizing. The kiddos had a wonderful time!  Also thank you for all of the birthday wishes this week. J

Celebrating Halloween, baking and planting pumpkin seeds, interest in letters and sounds, the sharing of stories and songs, and much, much more! Our week was full of learning and fun!

*November 22nd: Thanksgiving Celebration- 12:15-1:15.
We invite all parents, siblings, relatives that may be here in Singapore to a celebration in our back courtyard. We have been talking about appreciating how we are the same and different, and how we may celebrate similar or different holidays and participate in various amazing celebrations. Let’s do this together! Please bring a dish (main, snack or dessert) from a country that is special to you (passport country, a place you have lived or called home…) so we can celebrate each other, and our amazing classroom community. We will eat together and have a great time. Students are invited to wear clothes/dress from a country that is special to them. Our room moms have offered to organize the food so please look out for their e-mails. We look forward to seeing you here! Please let us know if you will not be able to attend.
*November 23rd and 24th: NO SCHOOL-Thanksgiving Holiday
*December 22nd to January 14th: NO SCHOOL-WINTER BREAK
*January 15th: First Day Back at school

 Volunteer Service Opportunity!

Over the Thanksgiving break, a team of 26 SAS teachers will be going to Siem Reap as part of a Caring for Cambodia (CFC) Teacher Training project. Our teachers will be sharing many new teaching methods with the Cambodian teachers. In the past we have shared information about hygiene and have distributed “hygiene kits” to the families of the students. These kits were a huge success and much needed in the community. We would sincerely like to continue this act of kindness.
How can you HELP?  Our goal is to create and transport 1500 hygiene kits to Siem Reap. If every student brings enough items for one family-size kit, we will be well on our way of reaching our goal. This activity is optional. If you would like to participate please have your child bring in the following by Friday, November 17th.

1 bar of soap                                 1 small washcloth               1 comb
1 large tube of toothpaste                4 toothbrushes

The students will assemble the kits in class. The SAS teachers will bring the kits to Cambodia and distribute them to the CFC school families. Thank you in advance for your support. The children love making these kits and seeing how their efforts can make a difference in another child’s life.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Warm regards,

SAS Teachers

Week 10 Update October 23 to 27

It has been a wonderful week back! The students were calm and rested, curious and enthusiastic! The scent of Halloween is in the air (made better by a big round pumpkin! Thank you to Shulynne’s mom Pam for bringing that in for our class!) Just a reminder that our class Halloween party will be held in our hub next Tuesday, October 31st from 8:00-9:00am.

We planted seeds, went on a nature walk, painted (inspired by famous artists,) made slime, created costumes, played with light and shadow, and much, much more!

*Parents In the Classroom*
I am attaching a document to this e-mail that invites you into the classroom. I would also like to invite parents in if they want to share about a special holiday/celebration that is important for their family. (Examples, Divali, Christmas, Hannukah, Chinese New Year…). Please just contact me if there is ever a time that you would like to share something with our class, celebrate a certain holiday with us, be a guest reader, or just spend some time doing some of the activities mentioned in the attached document.

Mango and Oreo Cookie
Let me know if you would like to take our piggies home for a visit. You could take them home for a weekend or a longer break. I have instructions for you, and will give you the things you need to care for them. They don’t ride on the buses home so you would need to find a way to get them home (car or taxi.)

Have a wonderful break!
