Friday Update February 17 to 21

February 21, 2014

Dear Parents,
Our week revolved around BEARS and the fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears!  Thank you for having your cuties ready with bears on Thursday and pajamas today!  They were absolutely adorable!!!!! Here are some of the activities this week.  We…
*learned the sound, letter formation and hand motion for the letter Bb.
*wrote Bb words, drew Bb pictures and cut out Bb pictures in our journals.
*added beads to our feely letter Bb.  Please add it to your ring and have your child review all of the letters.
*read and compared lots of different versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Can your child retell the story?
*were treated to a play (acted out by the pre-k teachers) of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
*made Three Bear’s porridge and ate it up! We did a lot of measuring!
*practiced pouring and ladling porridge into small medium and large bowls at the sensory table.
*cut out and decorated, “dancing bears” and used them as we sang Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear Turn Around.
*sang Three Brown Bears, The Bear Went Over the Mountain, Going on a Bear Hunt and Teddy Bear’s Picnic.
*measured and compared the heights of our bears (and ourselves!)
*went on a “bear hunt.”
*Counted and then graphed gummy bears (then ate them of course!)
*enjoyed a teddy bear’s picnic in the ABC Hall.

PAJAMA DAY
We had so much fun dressed in pajamas!  We spent the day reading lots of books about bears, doing fun bear activities and singing bear songs and we even had a “teddy bear picnic” for lunch!.  Please have your child tell you about it.

BEAR’S NIGHT OUT
On Thursday evening, while the school was quiet, our sleeping teddy bears came to life and got into all kinds of mischief in the ECC!  They were caught on camera by the school security, who then shared the pictures with us J.  Look in your child’s zippy pouch to see what his/her bear was up to.  Please have your child “read” the page to you.

Friday Update February 10 to 14

February 14, 2014

Dear Parents,
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!  I hope you have had a wonderful day of love and friendship—we have had a whole week of it!  We do have amazing cuties! We also celebrated Arjun’s 5th birthday!  Happy Birthday Arjun! It was another great week!!!! J

Here are some things that happened this week. We…
*learned the name, sound, and formation for the letter Ll.
*brainstormed/ listed/cut out words that begin with Ll and wrote them in our alphabet journals.
*added LACE to our feely letter Ll.  Please remember to add this to your feely letter ring and review all of the letters.
*learned the song Mary Had A Little Lamb.
*made LOOK BOOKS!  These are coming home in the blue Friday Folder bags—please have your child read them to you!  They used inventive spelling to sound out the words for their pictures, and I am really proud of the kiddos!  With learning to sound out and spell, the important thing is not for the cuties to spell everything correctly, but to (with my help) think what sounds they hear in the words they were spelling and write those down.  Definitely praise your child for their work. J
*made Valentine’s mailboxes
*played our favorite “draw a pig” game
*looked at the number of LETTERS in our names and practiced writing our numbers, using a 10 frame and tallying.
*compared the number of letters in our names to our friends
*continued reading a number of related stories to The Three Little Pigs (including The Fourth Little Pig, Ziggy and the Three Pigs, and The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.)
*watched the teachers ACT OUT The Three Little Pigs in the ABC hall (I was the Big Bad Wolf—the cuties could not keep from laughing and screaming at me the entire time!  I personally think we all deserved Oscars, but they might not agree J J)

NEXT WEEK
Next week we will be learning the letter Bb, continue with our Fairy Tale unit, and participate in BEAR activities.

PAJAMA DAY!!!!
Next Friday, February 21st the pre-K children will have Pajama Day! That’s right, they get to come to school dressed in their pajamas!!! J We will spend the day reading lots of books, making a tasty snack and even watching a movie with the entire pre-k as we enjoy our lunch in the ABC Hall.
Please have your child bring a teddy bear to school on Thursday. If you don’t have a teddy another stuffed toy will do.  The bear will stay overnight in school as we will use them again on Friday. Please do not send a teddy that your child cannot sleep without on Thursday night.

We will be having a “Teddy Bear Picnic” for lunch on Friday (Feb 21st) so it would be fabulous if you could send in a HOME LUNCH that day instead of ordering the school lunch.  (or, if you are okay with me serving the sandwich for those who want the school lunch…. We are going to be eating on the floor!!!!!)  Please let me know if you are NOT okay with me changing your child’s lunch to a sandwich for next Friday if they are still going to order school lunch.
