Week 15 Update and Pictures Nov 27 to Dec 1

An amazing full week of school! How is it already December?! Does anyone else feel like our first semester has just flown by? This week between a “city” project that I will send a separate link to (it is a work in progress—I will send part of the documentation but just keep adding to it and changing it around,) and many learning explorations, the students were in the holiday spirit and are designing a tree for our classroom!
A couple of things:
1)     Please let me know if you would like to take Mango and Oreo Cookie over the 3 week winter break. J
2)    Also please let me know if you are leaving before Thursday, December 21st (The last day before the winter break) if you haven’t yet.
3)    Please let me know if you have any songs or books that you would like to share about any of the holidays that are happening around this time. Many of the sing-a-long songs are Christmas songs, but we can include any that you would like for that day!  Just let me know as soon as possible. We want to make sure to celebrate all of the holidays that our part of our class family!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!  It was so wonderful to see so many of you here to eat a celebratory lunch with us. Thank you for all the wonderful food and the excellent company! What a great way to start off the long weekend! Aidah and I are so incredibly thankful for such a lovely group of children and parents to spend our year with!

It has been wonderful to be back with the children. Although it was a short week, there were some extremely engaging explorations going on and the students were fully immersed.

Week 12 Update November 6 to 10

Wow---our students DOVE into our learning explorations this week with gusto! They have really  matured over the past few weeks, and you can see their ideas growing, their confidence expanding and relationships continue to develop. I do encourage you to give them opportunities to be independent at home as well. Helping set the table, playing kindly with siblings and friends, cleaning up after themselves, washing their hands and getting dressed…all things they do at school and can transfer to home life. J

A project on our neighborhood and city began with two of our kiddos, caught on, and the whole class jumped on board! Also, writing in our wonder books, creating rubbings from nature, making glitter slime, counting and representing numbers, and much, much more! Our week was full of learning and fun!

You will see in the pictures the beginnings of our neighborhood and city project. I am making separate documentation so you won’t see much of that in the highlights. I will be sharing that soon. It is really amazing…

*November 22nd: Thanksgiving Celebration- 12:15-1:15.
We invite all parents, siblings, relatives that may be here in Singapore to a celebration in our back courtyard. We have been talking about appreciating how we are the same and different, and how we may celebrate similar or different holidays and participate in various amazing celebrations. Let’s do this together! Please bring a dish (main, snack or dessert) from a country that is special to you (passport country, a place you have lived or called home…) so we can celebrate each other, and our amazing classroom community. We will eat together and have a great time. Students are invited to wear clothes/dress from a country that is special to them. I have heard that there is already a huge variety of food coming! Thank you in advance. We look forward to seeing you here! Please let us know if you will not be able to attend.
*November 23rd and 24th: NO SCHOOL-Thanksgiving Holiday
*December 22nd to January 14th: NO SCHOOL-WINTER BREAK
*January 15th: First Day Back at school

 Volunteer Service Opportunity!

Over the Thanksgiving break, a team of 26 SAS teachers will be going to Siem Reap as part of a Caring for Cambodia (CFC) Teacher Training project. Our teachers will be sharing many new teaching methods with the Cambodian teachers. In the past we have shared information about hygiene and have distributed “hygiene kits” to the families of the students. These kits were a huge success and much needed in the community. We would sincerely like to continue this act of kindness.
How can you HELP?  Our goal is to create and transport 1500 hygiene kits to Siem Reap. If every student brings enough items for one family-size kit, we will be well on our way of reaching our goal. This activity is optional. If you would like to participate please have your child bring in the following by Friday, November 17th.

1 bar of soap                                 1 small washcloth               1 comb
1 large tube of toothpaste                4 toothbrushes

The students will assemble the kits in class. The SAS teachers will bring the kits to Cambodia and distribute them to the CFC school families. Thank you in advance for your support. The children love making these kits and seeing how their efforts can make a difference in another child’s life.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Warm regards,

SAS Teachers

A HUGE thank you to all of the parents who contributed to our Halloween party on Tuesday. Whether you sent in food, or helped out with the activities (or both!) it was VERY much appreciated! And an extra thank you to our fabulous room parents, Hana and Noemi for organizing. The kiddos had a wonderful time!  Also thank you for all of the birthday wishes this week. J

Celebrating Halloween, baking and planting pumpkin seeds, interest in letters and sounds, the sharing of stories and songs, and much, much more! Our week was full of learning and fun!
