Friday Update--May 29

One week left!!!!  Who can believe it?!! J Just a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY!  I will see the cuties back on Tuesday, June 2nd. J

This week we…
*celebrated Tia’s summer birthday! (HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIA!)
*had messy messy fun on wet day!
*went to a magic show and had popsicles on the kindergarten playground.  (We had a huge talk about the safety of balloons and that we NEVER put them in our mouths—it was just a trick by the magician.)
*watched the Bee Movie with a popcorn treat.
*prepared our Father’s Day gifts. J
*visited kindergarten!  We walked around the elementary school, visited Ms. Schwarz’s blue angelfish classroom (she took them on a magic carpet ride!) and they were shown around the classroom by kindergarten buddies.  We then visited the BIG library and met Ms. Cuthbert, the librarian, and Mr. Pearson, the kindergarten counselor. We finished off our visit with a snack and juice in the kinder-grade 2 cafeteria, where our cuties will be eating next year.  A fun day all around!

A sick note J
There seems to be a lot of things going around right now—today most classes were down to 9 or 10 students including ours, and at the end of the day we were down to 3 teachers!  If your child had a fever, or is feeling unwell or absolutely exhausted, please do keep them at home.  We know many families are traveling in the next couple of weeks and we want you and your family to be healthy for whatever your summer plans are! J

Friday Update May 11 to 15

We have had another amazing week of learning!  We celebrated Shaan’s birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHAAN!!!) and continued with our investigations of insects.  We have beetles and caterpillars in our class, and the cuties have really been into our outside centers and legos this week. J

Just a reminder that this Monday, May 18th is a LATE START DAY for students.  Students start school at 10:00am.  Please still send in normal snacks and a lunch (if your child has a home lunch.)

This week we also…
*learned the sound, hand motion and letter formation for the letter Vv.
*added velcro to our feely letter Vv.
*brainstormed words that began with Vv and added them to our alphabet journals.

*thought about our favorite things about Pre-K and drew them for the last page in our portfolio.
*drew our May self portraits—it is so amazing to see the difference from August for many of our cuties!
*read books about caterpillars and butterflies and their life cycle.
*revisited the concept of symmetry by making butterflies with paint and smushing the sides together so the wings are symmetrical. The cuties made EVERYTHING symmetrical for the rest of the week!  It was pretty funny!

*finished off our fun ant picnics J

*read a lot of Eric Carle books

*measured our heights and painted our hands—man have we grown since the beginning of the year!!!!

*did number math and pattern blocks

*worked on our insect books

PRE-K CELEBRATION AND PORTFOLIO SHARING
The children have been working hard on their creative writing books, alphabet books and song books throughout the year, and have a short insect book to read to you.
We will be celebrating these things, along with sharing portfolios at our end of the year celebration.
Please join us to help celebrate our accomplishments while we
*go through our creative writing, alphabet and song books with you and read a small insect book to you,
*reflect on your child’s Pre-K year as we share our portfolios with you
*watch a slide show of our Pre-K learning experiences

INTEGRATING INTO THE PRIMARY SCHOOL
During the last month of Pre-K we try to give the children plenty of opportunities to visit different areas of the Primary School and interact with many of the PS faculty. In May we will also have a magic show in the kindergarten group room, visit the kindergarten classes, go to the library to have a story with Mrs. Cuthbert and eat snack in the Primary School cafeteria. By June your children will be Kindergarten experts!  Please see list of dates below….more details will be provided as the dates get closer.
